Tobacco flower

All tobacco varieties belong to the “Nicotiana” genus, a name created in 1565 in homage to Jean NICOT, considered as one of the founding fathers of the plant in France.

“Nicotiana” varieties are classified in the Solanaceae family which groups together many other plants of agricultural interest such as potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, chilis etc.

The “Nicotiana Tabacum” variety covers over 90% of tobacco strains produced industrially throughout the world. These include five major types: dark air-cured, light air-cured (Burley), flue-cured (Virginia), sun-cured and fire-cured. The first three are grown in France.
